We had a great time this morning singing in Delamere Forest for over 300 Santas.
Elaine, one of our choir members, writes:
Thank you to the dozen or so stalwarts who turned up to the Delamere Santa Dash this morning. I don’t think I’ve ever seen so many Santas in one place. It may have been raining, but there was plenty of Christmas spirit (some of it in the form of mulled wine) and loads of enthusiasm! Ably led by Will, we sang an impressive number of songs and carols in 2 sets, and enjoyed a coffee together in the cafe. (If you haven’t been yet, I can recommend it …the cakes and coffee were wonderful). Happy Christmas and see you on 5th Jan!
Which sums it up quite nicely really. The enforced a cappella worked out well when the generator refused to power our piano. Thanks to our pianist, Jeremy, for stepping in and doubling the bass section!
Our first Christmas Concert took place at Caldy Valley Church, Chester on Friday 11th December at 7.30pm. We presented a seasonal programme of music and poetry interspersed with some musical solos. There were over 80 people in the appreciative audience who all enjoyed a drink and a mince pie afterwards.
Saturday 31st October, 2015
We enjoyed a thrilling, spooky Hallowe’en themed Gothic singing workshop led by Catherine Harrison. The song choices were right on the mark. One of the choir members commented later that of the songs we did in the workshop, three were featured later that evening on “Strictly Come Dancing”. The workshop attracted quite a wide age range with the youngest being only 10 months old. Ellie even came along in fancy dress.
Caldy Valley Voices are looking forward to providing some seasonal entertainment this year at the Delamere Santa Dash which will take place on Saturday 19th December at the Old Pale Car Park, Delamere Forest, starting at 10.30am.
If you fancy taking part in a 5km Fun Run, then why not give it a go. You can enter online and you get a free Santa Hat and mulled wine and mince pies will be served at the end.
We are also preparing our own evening of festive music and poetry which will take place at Caldy Valley Church, Chester on Friday 11th December starting at 7.30pm. The full programme is yet to be confirmed but will include audience participation in some well known carols besides a variety of traditional and contemporary Christmas songs.
Places are still available on our “Gothic Singing Workshop” which takes place in just TWO days time. Saturday 31st October starting at 3pm at Caldy Valley Church, Chester. Tickets £8/£2 u18 available here.
We often get asked to share other music/arts events taking place in the local community so have created a noticeboard page. On Saturday 6th June, we enjoyed a splendid afternoon of a capella singing led by Martin Jones. We were sounding like an authentic African choir or “villagers of Bosnia” in just a couple of short hours!
This 60 second video taster gives an idea of what we achieved…
Just some of the lovely comments from those who attended…
“For a first time choral experience it was terrific.”
“A very enjoyable afternoon.”
“It was very well put together. Martin had just the right pace to help us reach competence with each song. A lovely mix of songs too.”
“The group felt like a group from the start, and it was all really dynamic and stimulating.”
“A really friendly, happy, feel good afternoon”
“We all had a really good time and enjoyed the whole experience. Lovely refreshments, friendly people. Wonderful hospitality. Brilliant.”
The choir have been busy over the festive season with a number of performances. We sang for the Christmas Lights Switch On in Chester City Centre on 20th November followed by a Christmas performance at Gladstone’s Library on 30th November. We then sang for the “Trees of Life” Service at Countess of Chester Hospital on 5th December and performed “Carols by Candlelight” at Holy Ascension Church, Upton on 9th December which was organised by and in aid of the Babygrow Appeal. The season culminated with an excellent Christmas Meal at The Grosvenor Arms, Aldford attended by 35 of our members.
Normal service resumes in the new year on Tuesday 6th January at the new rehearsal venue of Caldy Valley Church at 7:30pm.
On November 8th, we joined forces with the NE Singers at Aldford Village Hall to present a concert in remembrance of World War 1. The Grosvenor Estate kindly provided an exhibition of artefacts from World War 1 and the choral music of the era was interspersed with poetry readings presented by members of Chester Poets.
Our Sing 4 Fun Workshop with Matt Baker on 11th October, 2014 was a great event with over 70 people in attendance ranging in age from 10 to 92. Matt encouraged everyone to explore different colours in their voices and employ a variety of these tones, singing harmonically some lively songs!
